let's make sure yours don't suck

My love of words began at an early age.

My Mom used to read to my older sister and I, so that was a great start.

But when you’re young with a lisp and a stutter? You tend to keep your mouth shut because kids are the worst.

And when you’re a drop of chocolate in a sea of milk, those little fuckers can be evil incarnate.

Books became my addiction (to this very day, honestly). The librarians at the public library became my besties.

Then diaries. The lock and key version.

Then journals.

Then blogs.

Speech therapy took the lisp away. As well as the stutter. For the most part. Self-consciousness remains as certain words continue to fight their way out of my mouth.

The written word will always be my preferred mode of communication.

THE STORY UNFOLDS...

Which led to a love of writing fiction starting in the seventh grade.

But a funny thing happened during my freshman year in high school: I discovered adult romance books. Despite the fact that I was writing YA fiction, living vicariously through my friends, and then writing about it (Hee-hee. Oh yes, I was shneaky-shneaky like that), I didn’t like reading YA. Apparently, I thought they were boring as hell. Hah. Go figure.

I don’t remember the romance title that changed my life forever, but needless to say, I was hooked. For life. So, thank you, Unknown Romance Author. Yet with great reading power, comes great responsibilities:

Like spotting errors and correcting them.

Wanting to become Captain in the Grammar Police.

Finding out that I could get paid to read, so I could help others tell their story better.

So, after independently publishing two YA fiction novels, and going back to school to get a BA in Nonprofit Management with a Concentration in Writing and Literature, I took my love of the written word and invested in proofreading training through Edit Republic to better hone my Eye Spy skills.

The fact that I can be a set of eyes for female entrepreneurs and authors makes me want to do the Snoopy Dance.

When I'm not editing, you can find me snuggled down in bed reading more romance books, watching my fav shows on Netflix, or watching movies on Amazon.
